Massage enthusiasts consider Swedish Massage to be a more relaxing, lighter touch massage than most other massages. It’s referred to as the “classic” most common type of massage seen. Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking.
Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. Swedish Massage is often referred to as the “relaxing massage.” Therapist will use light to firm pressure with a range of long, smooth strokes. They will use a combination of kneading and friction for the more superficial layers of the muscle tissue, and can combine active and passive movements of the joints.
Swedish Massage is just one of the massage modalities we may incorporate as we customize your massage.
